Friday Series Introduction: Fantastic Females

Hello!

Today's new series is: Fantastic Females, post celebrating successful women in S.T.E.M!

What is the difference between this and yesterday's series, you may ask? Well, Thursday's series is focused on breaking down S.T.E.M. barriers, and today's is centered promoting females in S.T.E.M. occupations.

A quick preview of the following weeks:
- a teenager who created a nonprofit encouraging girls to enter computer science, and got into all Ivy-League schools

Be sure to come back next week to check out Fantastic Friday!

Thursday Series Introduction: Tearing-Down-Barriers Thursday

Hello,

As this blog's focus is on females in S.T.E.M., I thought it was time to have a series dedicated solely to the gender gap in S.T.E.M., and more specifically; how leaders are combatting the problem.

According to the National Girls Collaborative Project, women only make up 18.2% on the workforce for computer science, and that is only an example of these discouraging statistics.

Fortunately, many organizations are working to combat this; for example, take Harvard University.
The Implicit Test measures your inner preferences for a variety of topics, two of which are
Gender and Career and Gender and Science. I strongly encourage readers to take the Implicit Test if you desire; I found it very insightful.

A quick sneak peak:
Studies show women's coding changes are accepted more frequently if the name is hidden, and what companies are doing about this.

See you next week for Tearing-Down-Barriers Thursday!

Tuesday Series Introduction: Feel-Good Broadcast

Hello,

This may be an opinion statement, but it is one that rings true every week in my experience:
 Tuesdays are the absolute worst.
To be in a Tuesday is to be deep in a tunnel, but too far away to see the light at the end (a.k.a. the weekend).

In an effort to provide a remedy for what I shall now call the Tuesday Effect, S.T.E.M. Now is launching Feel-Good Broadcast every Tuesday. This blog will share stories of valiant, courageous, and/or sweet deeds happening currently in the S.T.E.M. Field.

A sneak peak ahead: A certain man is trying to cure cancer with a novel approach.

Be sure to tune in next Tuesday for S.T.E.M. Now's first Feel-Good Broadcast.

Sunday Series Introduction: Social Spotlight

Hello!

Do you know that one of the major reasons females leave STEM is that they believe the (untrue) "geeky" stereotypes around STEM? Alas, according to Business Insider, when females hear generalizations about computer programmers, or engineers, their interest in STEM fields decreases.

At STEM Now, we are combating these false assumptions with our new series: Social Spotlight.
Every Sunday this blog will feature one STEM-group making a difference in the world.

A quick teaser for the Sundays ahead:

-one group with a novel approach to teach coding to young girls
-an organization pursuing a simpler way to recycle

These examples are just a small sample about what we will share with you, so make sure to check out STEM Now next Sunday for our first Social Spotlight!
